Waterford Crystal’s
Ashling pattern reflects Irish spirit and history - many of Waterford’s lovely pattern names are Irish.
Alana
, first produced in 1952, is a girl’s name meaning “darling.”
Sheila derives from the Anglo-Norman name, “Caecelia,” or “Cecelia.”
Colleen is the Irish word for “young girl.” In 1968 Waterford produced
Ashling.
Ashling is an Irish girl’s name meaning “dream of beauty.” Waterford Crystal dates back to the Flint Glass Works, founded in 1783 on the quay in the port town of Waterford, Ireland. When a Waterford crystal service was presented to the wife of King George III, she was so proud of it that she had it displayed in Cheltenham castle. Today “Waterford” is synonymous with fine crystal, and is found in households around the world.
Southern Grandeur (Sterling) by Easterling Silver is an elaborate pattern featuring floral, scroll, and plume designs. It was introduced in 1944. Easterling Silver was founded that same year in Chicago, IL, by Jack Luhn, Les Hedge, and Glenn Olmstead. A direct sales company, Easterling sold a number of tableware lines that included china, crystal, cookware, and other products. In 1974 the sterling silver inventory and pattern rights of Easterling were sold to another marketing firm (we’re not making this up!) – the Westerling Company. Westerling sterling patterns were manufactured by Gorham Silver, a silver-maker founded by Jabez Gorham in 1831 in Providence, RI. Gorham has long been recognized for hand-crafted silver of the highest quality.
