Replacements, Ltd. expects thousands for legendary yard sale
GREENSBORO, N.C., August 19, 2008 – After a four year break,
Replacements, Ltd. is bringing back one of the biggest yard sales of its type in the United States. The world’s largest supplier of old and new
collectibles will discount more than 100,000 pieces of inventory for a bargain hunter’s paradise September 20-21, 2008.
“Our last yard sale drew more than 7,500 visitors from 38 states-- that’s more people than the population of some nearby towns,” says Replacements’ founder and CEO
Bob Page. “We really want to turn this into a big community event, rather than making it just about Replacements. That’s why we’re inviting area antique dealers, artisans and even local charities to set up booths and participate.”
“We get so many calls about the
Replacements Yard Sale from across the region and other states, I think the event is a big draw for the entire area,” says Gail Murphy, Director of Marketing for the Greensboro Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s a real opportunity to find unique pieces from thousands of patterns, and I think that’s what interests a lot of people. It’s great fun, like a huge treasure hunt.”
Rather than take the traditional yard sale approach of pricing items by the piece, this year Replacements will sell cardboard boxes for five dollars each and allow customers to fill each box with as much yard sale merchandise as it will hold.
“We don’t want folks to get scared off by the fact we’re expecting big crowds, so we’re taking steps to make the event convenient for everyone who wants to come out,” says Replacements’ Showroom manager Keith Winkler. “The yard sale will be handicapped accessible, and we’ll have plenty of parking areas with shuttle services available. Plus we’re going to bring out new merchandise every hour throughout the two-day event so shoppers won’t have to worry about missing out on great finds if they can’t get here early.”
Ten percent of the yard sale proceeds will benefit Children of Vietnam (www.childrenofvietnam.org), a humanitarian organization providing direct aid to poor and homeless children through numerous orphanages and street children programs in central Vietnam. The sale runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 20 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 21; admission is five dollars. Replacements, Ltd. is located just off I-40/I-85 (exit 132) at 1089 Knox Road, McLeansville, N.C.
