Replacements, Ltd. Continues to Lead National Push For Workplace Equality
GREENSBORO, N.C., September 2, 2008 — For the seventh consecutive year, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization, has awarded Replacements, Ltd. a perfect score on the HRC Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index. Replacements is one of only eleven companies that have achieved a 100 percent rating every year since the HRC Foundation started its index in 2002.
This year’s index shows impressive gains nationally with 259 businesses achieving a perfect score, a one-third increase over last year. The index rates how major American companies treat GLBT employees, consumers and investors. Ratings are based on a scale from 0 to 100, and include factors such as non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees.
“I’m just thrilled to see so many other companies are getting on board and responding to the concerns of the GLBT community,” said Replacements, Ltd. founder and CEO Bob Page. “I think these numbers reflect that there is a growing recognition that GLBT people are highly valued by their employers. These companies, leaders in corporate America, understand that GLBT people face a huge amount of legal and financial uncertainty because Washington and most state governments refuse to find a workable solution; as a result, these companies stand up and fill in the gaps.”
“The 2009 Corporate Equality Index shows that corporate America understands that a diverse workforce is critical to remaining successful and competitive,” said HRC Foundation President Joe Solmonese. “In the absence of a federal law that prohibits workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, it is up to employers to take the lead and implement policies that ensure all their employees are protected.”
The index reports more than nine million workers are now protected from GLBT workplace discrimination. In addition to Replacements, Ltd., other companies that have achieved a 100 percent ranking every year since the HRC started its index include Nike, Apple Computer, Eastman Kodak and J.P. Morgan Chase.
