Replacements, Ltd. Recognized as One of North America’s Top Psychologically Healthy Workplaces
GREENSBORO, N.C., March 2, 2009 – The American Psychological Association last night recognized Replacements, Ltd. with the APA’s prestigious 2009 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. Replacements is one of only five employers across North America to receive the honor, which recognizes outstanding workplace practices promoting employee health and well-being. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Replacements excelled in PHWA categories of employee involvement, health and safety, employee growth and development, work-life balance and employee recognition. Having an on-site occupational health nurse and a full-time counselor, employee councils, pet friendly policies, leave for parents to attend school events and a culture that provides an inclusive environment for associates regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation or religious beliefs are among the workplace practices that helped earn Replacements a 2009 PHWA.
“We are so proud to receive this award because it truly validates all we’re doing to create an environment where all associates feel valued and accepted,” says Bob Page, Replacements’ founder and CEO. “So many of our employees have told me about working places where they didn’t feel comfortable because those employers concentrated more on their lifestyle or other aspects of their life. We’re proud of the fact that our associates can be comfortable in their work environment and don’t have to worry about being judged on anything except their job performance.”
“Our belief is that by taking creative and thoughtful steps to make the workplace healthier in a variety of ways we have both improved our business results and taken care of our most important asset, which is our people,” adds Scott Fleming, Replacements’ president. “This is a great recognition for everyone here.”
Financial indicators demonstrate how healthy workplace practices translate into business results. In 2008, Replacements’ annual sales exceeded $86.5 million while lifetime sales surpassed $1 billion. With turnover at a low 11.6 percent and an average tenure of nearly nine years, employees are more than just satisfied with their jobs. In 2006-2007, the company’s workers compensation incident rate decreased 23 percent and the severity rate decreased 39 percent.
“In these tough economic times, a healthy, productive workforce is more important than ever,” says David Ballard, PsyD, MBA, APA’s assistant executive director for corporate relations and business strategy. “Employers who embrace the connection between health and well-being and organizational performance are better able to develop a high-performing workforce that serves as a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Replacements, Ltd. has implemented a comprehensive set of practices that helps to create a work environment where both employees and the organization can thrive.”
APA’s Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards are designed to showcase the very best from among the award winners recognized by APA’s affiliated state, provincial and territorial psychological associations. Nominees are evaluated on their workplace practices in the areas of employee involvement, health and safety, employee growth and development, work-life balance and employee recognition. Awards are given to for-profit and not-for-profit organizations as well as government, military and educational institutions.
