Replacements, Ltd. Climbs in Rankings Among Top U.S. E-Retailers Despite Tough Economy
Company Ranked 12th Among Housewares/Home Furnishings Internet Retailers
GREENSBORO, N.C., May 12, 2009 – Despite a tough economy and shaken consumer confidence,
Replacements, Ltd. continues to show consistent growth among the nation’s top online retailers. This week, leading industry magazine
Internet Retailer lists Replacements as the 12th largest housewares/home furnishings e-retailer on the publication’s annual
500 Guide, which ranks the United States’ largest online retailers based on 2008 Web driven sales. Replacements.com moved up four spots to 12th from its previous ranking of 16th in the housewares/home furnishings niche, and is now also ranked 164th overall in the group of 500 leading online retailers in the U.S. This marks the third consecutive year the world’s largest supplier of old and new
collectibles has improved position on the
Top 500 Guide.
“I really think we continue to grow and succeed because we’ve always concentrated on being user friendly and delivering the highest quality customer service,” says Chairman and CEO
Bob Page, who founded Replacements in the attic of his home 28 years ago. “Even though we have a constantly changing inventory of more than 12 million pieces, we still hear from hundreds of customers each month telling us our site is fast and easy to use and I think that’s a big reason why we continue to grow our traffic.”
Sales driven by the company’s Web site,
www.replacements.com, rose 16 percent over the previous year and accounted for nearly three quarters of the company’s overall $86.5 million in business for 2008. The site recently experienced a record number of visits, exceeding three million in a calendar month.
“The fact that we were able to increase our online sales and our
Internet Retailer‘Top 500’ ranking for 2008 when many market leaders in e-commerce saw flat or negative Web traffic and sales growth is helpful for us in validating our online strategies during difficult times,” says Jack Whitley, senior vice president of e-commerce. “Even though we are probably in the toughest economy for retailers in our lifetimes, and are selling in the highly-discretionary niche of hard-to-find tableware, we’ve stuck to our marketing plan and have continued to aggressively test new online ad venues, then scaled online advertising campaigns where we are seeing success. This decision to stick with our plan, even in tough times, in addition to other online, offline and public relations initiatives was key to our success in 2008.”
Whitley adds Replacements now runs more than five million ads and eight million unique product placements in the company’s core online advertising campaigns, which generated over 700 million ad impressions in 2008. Research shows 82 percent of Replacements’ new customers last year came through the Web.
