Replacements, Ltd. Urges Defeat of North Carolina Senate Bill 2
GREENSBORO, N.C., June 1, 2015 – Replacements, Ltd., the world’s largest retailer of old and new china, crystal, silver and collectibles, is a national leader in workplace inclusion and opposes all efforts to enact Senate Bill 2 or other discriminatory legislation.
Late Thursday, Gov. Pat McCrory vetoed SB 2, which would discriminate against LGBT couples by allowing public officials to recuse themselves from issuing marriage licenses or performing civil ceremonies. The North Carolina Senate is expected to consider overriding the governor’s veto later today. Replacements is urging the North Carolina General Assembly to sustain the governor’s veto and issued the following statement: “Replacements, Ltd. applauds the governor’s decision to veto discriminatory Senate Bill 2. We believe that no public official should be exempt from following the law or upholding their oath to the Constitution. Allowing judicial officials or government employees to pick and choose how much of the people’s work they’ll do, and when, is dangerous and ill-advised. Nearly every major American company prohibits this type of discrimination, yet SB 2 allows state officials to limit the marriage rights of LGBT couples. Legislation like SB 2 sends the wrong message to people doing business with and in our State. Replacements firmly believes discriminatory laws like SB 2 damage North Carolina's reputation and economy, hindering the ability of economic developers to recruit job creators and of businesses to recruit and retain a talented workforce.”
