Replacements, Ltd. Featured Pattern - July 2004
Starburst by Franciscan China
In 1954, Franciscan China released a bold new china pattern called
Starburst that emulated the futuristic trends of the 1950’s.
Starburst features a cream-colored earthenware body that is accented with turquoise and olive starbursts. This space age pattern was designed on pieces created in Franciscan’s “Eclipse” shape. "Eclipse" and
Starburst were both part of the “Modern Americana” dinnerware promotion created by Franciscan. Unique to "Eclipse" are pieces that feature an irregular shape such as the oblong
Starburst dinner plate, salad plate, and bread and butter plate. The name Franciscan has long been associated with excellent craftsmanship and design. Franciscan china was first produced in 1934 as a project of Gladding, McBean, and Co. of California.
