Replacements, Ltd. Featured Pattern - March 2003
Amapola by Villeroy & Boch
Spring is the time of year for rejuvenation. Soon, flowers will begin to grace landscapes with beautiful splashes of color. What better pattern to feature during this magical time of year than
Amapola by Villeroy & Boch. If you want your family and guests to really feel that spring has arrived, set a table with this beautiful floral pattern and get ready for lots of compliments. Poppies (or amapolas) are the theme, and they are presented very elegantly on the
Amapola pattern. This pattern will work very nicely in a large variety of decors and settings, from informal lunches to formal spring dinners. Amapolas have been featured in song (Amapola - My Pretty Little Poppy, Joseph M. LaCalle) and as the state flower of California.
Amapolas are also
considered a symbol of wealth and contentment. This fits nicely with the fact that these pieces are made by a manufacturer known for producing high-quality dinnerware, Villeroy and Boch.
The
origins of Villeroy and Boch date back to 1748. Francois Boch began manufacturing simple ceramic tableware in a village named 'Audun-le-Tiche,' in the province of Lorraine, France. Choosing a strategy different from his contemporaries, Boch's concept was to create affordable but high-quality porcelain tableware. The company, after many failed attempts, developed new compounds that gave earthenware the look of porcelain. Boch moved his operation to Mettlach, Germany in 1809. The famed inventor replaced manual production with a more cost-effective precision, mechanized system. Doing this allowed him to achieve his dream of bringing affordable, high-quality dinnerware to many more customers. The tradition of craftsmanship and quality begun by Francois Boch remains at Villeroy & Boch today!
