Pattern of the Month - November 2002
Dolly Madison by Fostoria
Our bonus pattern of the month is Dolly Madison by Fostoria. Fostoria honored Dolly Madison, one of history's most popular First Ladies, with this beautiful crystal. Dolly was the perfect representation of American culture, grace, and strength. Her contributions to political society, particularly for women, was only overcast by her saving many American treasures, in particular a portrait of George Washington, from destruction when the British burned Washington in 1814. The Dolly Madison pattern reflects many of these characteristics. A heavy crystal pattern produced from 1939 - 1973, it has a "v" shaped bowl with elegant paneled cuts surrounding the bowl base. The sturdy wafer-style stem sits on a regal round foot. This highly collectible pattern, like its namesake, is sure to make a distinctive impression at any social event!
