American-Clear by Fostoria

American-Clear (also known as Early American) was designed by Phillip Ebeling and patented in 1915. It has become Fostoria’s most popular pattern. The foot, stem, and upper banding of each piece are smooth and understated. The Fostoria Glass Company was certainly excited about the introduction of their new line of crystal. A description of the pattern written in 1915 by the designers at Fostoria says, “It is impossible to produce by illustration the real appearance of this design, which is prismatic in effect; by either artificial or sunlight it produces all the ‘prismatic’ fire to a greater extent than any table glassware pattern that we have ever produced.” American-Clear was Fostoria’s bestselling pattern for 67 years and the design itself has become a part of American history.
