King James by
Oneida is a glossy-finish silverplate pattern that features a plumed, scalloped tip, beveled edges, and a ridge that runs along the center of the handle. This handsome design complements a broad selection of china and crystal. This month, we feature a special 65-piece
King James set that includes 12 dinner knives, 12 dinner forks, 12 salad forks, 12 place/oval soup spoons, and 12 teaspoons, along with 1 tablespoon, 1 pierced tablespoon, 1 sugar spoon, 1 medium cold meat serving fork (8 5/8 inches), and 1 gravy ladle.
The Oneida company grew out of the original Oneida Community founded in upstate New York by John Humphrey Noyes more than 150 years ago. This Christian communal society was based upon the principles of individual self-perfection and shared property. Women bore the same duties as men, and individual responsibilities varied from day to day. This constant rotation of roles required creativity from the members of the community, and many inventions were developed at Oneida. For more than 30 years the "community" received recognition – and profit – for areas of endeavor as diverse as silk weaving, chain making, and, eventually, one of the world's most recognizable, high-quality, and beautifully designed products, Oneida flatware.
