Stylish and romantic, the striking figurines designed by Giuseppe Armani are true works of art in porcelain, produced by a master. The impeccable detailing of these pieces, particularly in the draping and folds of clothing, is reminiscent of the great works of painters and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance. Our “Armani Figurine” collection this month offers a fantastic variety of figurines – you’re certain to find a figurine that’s just right for your personal collection or that will make an ideal gift!
Born in the town of Calci, in the Tuscan region of Italy, Armani, like many children, loved to draw, and he was remarkably adept at photo-realistic art. His father, realizing his son’s gift, enrolled the boy in the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. When Armani’s father died suddenly, Armani had to leave school - but he did not leave art. When a parish priest put together an exhibition for young artists in the region, he included a sculpture by Armani. The remarkable piece led to his first job at an art gallery in the shadow of the famous leaning Tower of Pisa. Armani often traveled to Siena and Florence, where he studied the works of Ghirlandaio, Piero di Cosimo, Verrocchio, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Andrea del Sarto. Armani’s distinctive gift, his ability to breathe life and soul into sculpture, is found in each of his porcelain pieces. When Giuseppe Armani died in 2006, he left a magnificent legacy of work.
