Goebel dates to 1871, when Franz Goebel founded the company in the village of Oeslau, Germany. First producing slates and pencils, the firm installed its first kiln in 1879. When Franz’s son, William, joined the business, the two dedicated themselves to the production of fine porcelain. The company soon expanded to make dinnerware and figurines. In 1935 the F. & W Goebel Company introduced the collection that would cement its fame worldwide – the M.I. Hummel series of figurines. When father and son discovered the art that Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel drew for a series of religious cards for her convent, the Goebels hired artists to interpret her drawings so they could be fashioned into three-dimensional figurines. The Hummel figurines were an immediate success, and continue to be sought-after by collectors around the globe. Goebel continues to concentrate on brands of accessories and giftware with its highly collectible
Artis Orbis, Smithsonian Collection, and
Berta Hummel Gallery series, as well as its own Goebel Gifts brand.
Whimsical, aesthetically pleasing, and inspiring, the Goebel items included in this selection are gifts your loved ones will always remember!
