From the inception of the company more than 260 years ago, the quality of materials has been a hallmark of Royal Worcester. In 1751, Dr. John Wall, one of the founders of the company, developed a “soft paste” porcelain that would not crack or shatter in boiling water. From the very beginning, Dr. Wall wanted to produce tableware and accent pieces unmatched in their attention to detail and design quality. Nearly a century later, the company was on the forefront of another development. “Parian” was the name given to a white “biscuit” porcelain, developed in both France and England in the mid-19th century. Parian figurines were far less expensive than marble or bronze, and far more durable than plaster, but successful firing of the material required great skill. In this process Royal Worcester was a leader, and Parian busts, figurines, vases, boxes, and pitchers adorned nearly every Victorian household. Royal Worcester continues to be a leader and trendsetter in the dinnerware and giftware industry.
