Royal Doulton "Bacchus" Character Jugs – Popular Collectibles
For our next special "Wine Lovers" selection this month we’re offering two truly remarkable "Bacchus" character jugs from Royal Doulton. These character jugs (one large and one small) each depict Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, and will add mirth, fun, and memories that will only grow over time. Quantities are extremely limited, so be sure to take advantage of this special offer today.
What we now call a character jug was actually derived from an earlier form of drinking vessel that was commonly known as the "Toby jug." (A strict dichotomy has emerged regarding the terms "Toby jug" and "character jug" – Toby jugs feature the full body of a character while character jugs feature only the subject’s head.) Toby jugs and character jugs made their first modern day appearance in the porcelain factories of various Staffordshire potters. Royal Doulton began producing Toby jugs as early as their opening in 1815. Today, the collecting of these unique drinking vessels has become extremely popular.
