This month we feature one of the largest-selling casual tableware patterns in the history of dinnerware,
Desert Rose by
Franciscan China. This pattern was so neat it even had a fan in one Jackie Kennedy, who ordered Franciscan pieces for use on Air Force One and in the White House.
Inspiration for Franciscan China’s
Desert Rose pattern was
drawn from the creations of the freelance designer Annette Honeywell. Mary Jane Winans, a Franciscan artist, designed and sculpted the
Desert Rose pattern. The light pinks and greens of this pattern’s earthenware body perfectly accent the scalloped vine and rose border. Franciscan’s rustic design themes were inspired by the Mexican and Southwestern United States pottery crafting traditions. The
Desert Rose pattern was
introduced in 1941, and during the ensuing decades over
100 different piece types were produced. In addition to the standard place setting and serving pieces, Replacements carries a great selection of
fun additional pieces including items such as
rosebud-shaped salt and pepper shakers, snack trays, tea tiles, oatmeal bowls, tureens, steak plates, cookies jars, mixing bowls, canisters, a variety of pitchers, and much, much more. Start below to
add pieces or start a set in this tableware classic!
