Nautilus by Wedgwood
|
In a past newsletter we’ve shared the story that Josiah Wedgwood, founder of Wedgwood China in England in the mid-1700s, was a conchologist. That is, he was very interested in the study and classification of seashells. Josiah was a regular on the beaches of England, always searching for rare shells to add to his collection and to use as subjects for modeling new dinnerware patterns and pieces. A great example of the seashell heritage at Wedgwood is evident in one of this month’s special features, a centerpiece in the
Nautilus pattern by
Wedgwood. This centerpiece is made from white bone china and is designed in the form of a beautiful nautilus shell resting on a reef pedestal.
We are also able to offer for a limited time a set of
4 salad plates, done in the shape of clamshells! More great pieces currently available in the
Nautilus pattern include shell-shaped dinner and luncheon plates, a conch shell serving bowl, and a gorgeous all-white bone china
shell. Wedgwood first created the
Nautilus pattern to provide perfect shell-themed accent pieces for the very popular Oceanside whiteware china pattern. Pieces from
Nautilus and
Oceanside make PERFECT accents for a memorable summer evening cocktail party or dinner, and at very affordable prices! To browse and order in a great selection of Nautilus pieces, start at the links below.
