Artisan Cut Crystal Vase
Recently, one of Waterford Crystal’s finest master cutters, Tom Power, visited Replacements, Ltd. as part of a special signing event. This event was held in our 12,000 square foot Showroom on Thursday, May 3rd. Mr. Power’s visit offered our customers an opportunity to purchase Waterford classic stemware, giftware, and collectible pieces which were personally signed by him, using a special engraving tool. As part of this special event, Mr. Power engraved several special Waterford
Artisan cut crystal vases with his signature and date. We still have several of these beautiful engraved Waterford
Artisan crystal vases available for purchase, and offer them while they are available. Additionally, we have a few limited-edition
Artisan bowls from the 2006 Waterford Signing Event held at our facilities. These gorgeous pieces can be used in many ways, including as centerpieces, fruit bowls, or serving bowls.
Artisan Cut Crystal Bowl
As we shared previously, Mr. Power began his career with Waterford Crystal as an apprentice “wedge cutter” in September 1969. Wedge cutting is most often used for more intricate designs when creating Waterford patterns. Deeper wedge cuts result in prisms that both scatter light and intensify its reflection. Most wedge cuts must be made using a single uninterrupted motion of the hand, and a master wedge cutter uses his intuition and sight to determine the depth and exact location of these special and eye-catching cuts. Examples of Waterford wedge cuts are the basic upright cut, swerve cut, and the Waterford star cut. After a five-year apprenticeship with regular practical examinations and the cutting of a qualifying bowl, Mr. Power achieved fully-qualified Wedge Cutter status. Five years later, Mr. Power achieved the advanced certification for Master Wedge Cutter. He currently works in the Special Department at Waterford Crystal, where he is responsible for the cutting of many one-of-a-kind pieces destined to grace the display cabinets of many notable figures in sports, politics and business. (In order to work in this specialized area, it is necessary to have at least twenty-five years experience as a crystal master.) Examples of these one-of-a-kind pieces include the Waterford Crystal Ball, which is lowered at the Times Square New Year’s celebration in New York, The Super Bowl Trophy, PGA Tour golf trophies, and many more. Mr. Power lives in Waterford, Ireland with his wife Ellen, their daughter Michelle and grandson Evan.
