Holiday Dining Etiquette Seminar - November 11, 2006

Etiquette Seminar at Replacements The English novelist and playwright John Galsworthy once remarked, “The old order changeth – yes, but we ought to be able to preserve beauty and dignity, and the sense of service and manners, things that have come very slowly, and can be made to vanish very fast if we aren’t set on preserving them somehow.” The very modern and very fast-paced 20th century took its toll on society’s sense of decorum and grace. Casual living superseded formality in general, as TV dinners served on a coffee table displaced many family dinners in the dining room. However, many people are beginning to understand that some of the cast away rituals of the past represent more than just custom. These “formalities”, taken as a group, are a source of warmth and great comfort to family and friends, and can actually reinforce a very satisfying rhythm in day-to-day life, while helping mitigate the tension created by the frenetic pace and information overload we all face in the 21st century. So a genuine appreciation for gracious living, ceremony, and proper etiquette is making a comeback! In fact, at Replacements, Ltd. we are receiving more and more requests to host seminars on topics including proper etiquette, and the protocols for being the most gracious of hosts. With that in mind, we are happy to announce a series of lectures on these resurgent subjects! The second seminar will address holiday entertaining, with specific focus on buffet etiquette. The first seminar occurred on August 19, 2006 and addressed proper table etiquette.

On Saturday, November 11, at our beautiful Showroom and Museum facilities, we will offer two, one-hour sessions with etiquette and protocol consultant, Sherry Pinedo. The first will begin at 11:00am (sharp!), and the second will begin at 1:00pm. Ms. Pinedo is the founder and owner of Southern Graces, a business that excels in teaching the art of gracious living. Ms. Pinedo has been called on to lead classes in country clubs, local colleges, and has done compassionate (but structured!) emergency tutoring sessions for numerous boys and girls planning to attend the prom or have dinner with a girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s family for the first time, and most of us probably have some unique memories related to a situation such as that! In addition to teaching top-shelf social skills from her remodeled antebellum home, Sherry Pinedo works with us at Replacements, Ltd, along with her husband and son. Her love of the refined is what brought her to Replacements, Ltd. and it is part of what makes it fun here for her, and all of us. This lecture should be really fun and informative. If you’ve ever asked “How do I decorate a buffet table?”, “Are there proper rules for setting and serving a buffet meal?”, and “What should I do with all these tiny forks,” this seminar is for you! Ms. Pinedo’s expert advice is sure to add to and enhance your holiday entertaining. One seminar with Ms. Pinedo will have you dazzling your friends with your knowledge of gracious living.
