Davos by Hutschenreuther

Our featured pattern for this month is Davos by Hutschenreuther. The Hutschenreuther family created a legacy of quality and design craftsmanship that has helped Hutschenreuther dinnerware become sought after worldwide. Check below for more of the Hutschenreuther story, and great deals on Davos pieces!

Davos by Hutschenreuther

In 1814, Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther founded the first Hutschenreuther factory and was followed by his son, Lorenz Hutschenreuther, who opened a second factory. The company purchased the Tirschenreuther Company in 1927, and in 1970 the C.M. Hutschenreuther and Lorenz Hutschenreuther Factories merged. In 1997 a merger with Winterling AG took place to form the largest porcelain manufacturing company in Germany and one of the largest in the world.

Winterling AG as the parent, and Hutschenreuther as a subsidiary, are distinguished in the world of dinnerware manufacturing by the fact that all phases of production are done "in house". This helps Hutschenreuther maintain a very high standard of quality for each item produced.

Hutschenreuther produces a "hardpaste" porcelain, which is the finest form of ceramic. Such porcelain is of the "vitrified" family of ceramics, meaning that the component elements are fully fused into a non-permeable mass. Vitrified ceramics have superior durability and finer appearance than non-verified products. In addition, vitrified products are more sanitary for use as dinnerware because they do not retain food particles or liquid. Hardpaste porcelain is also distinguished from other types of ceramic by its brilliant white color. The color is attained by using only the most pure raw materials, in contrast to lower quality clays that can be discolored due the presence of such compounds as ferrous oxide. The remarkable purity of the Hutschenreuther clay shows in the translucency of the finished product.

Hutschenreuther has created a very unique pattern shape, called Olivia, and used it in making the fine, flawless porcelain Davos. This pattern is created by artisans with over 175 years of experience in the manufacture of dinnerware. Davos' unique coupe shape, platinum trim, and timeless design make this pattern highly sought after throughout the world.
