Scottish terriers are an adorable breed! They are playful, watchful, and a joy to have around the home (and workplace!). So adorable are these dogs that Franklin Delano Roosevelt never traveled without his Scottish terriers, Duffy and Fala. This month, we feature a lovable Scottish terrier named McKenzie or “Mac.” Mac belongs to Tonya Shanberg, a member of our human resources team. On October 20th of this year, Tonya celebrated her 20th year of service at Replacements, Ltd. Congratulations Tonya!
Mac has been with Tonya and her family for seven years. Originally, Mac belonged to a hairstylist who lived in a small apartment. Realizing that Mac disliked apartment life, she began dropping word around the beauty shop that she was looking for a new home for the dog. One day, Tonya’s brother-in-law stopped in to have his hair cut. Tonya’s brother-in-law decided that he would take Mac home and surprise his mother-in-law with the playful dog. Tonya agreed to keep Mac until her mother could come from Pennsylvania to retrieve Mac. Two weeks later, when Tonya’s mother arrived for a visit, she realized how attached Tonya and Mac had become. She told Tonya that she could keep Mac because he had already found the perfect home.
Mac loves long walks and car rides. This must be a trait of all Scottish Terriers, as Franklin Delano Roosevelt was often imaged with his dogs sitting in the front seat of his convertible. Mac is full of personality and loves meeting new people. He is not shy and does not hesitate to let you know what he needs. Tonya reports that Mac will often sit and stare at her with big puppy-eyes. If she does not immediately get what he wants, Mac will begin nudging her with his nose.
Tonya had this to say about the Replacements, Ltd. pet friendly policy, “Our policy is very helpful whenever I have to take Mac to be groomed or to visit the vet. I just bring him back to work with me – it saves a lot of time. Also, Mac loves visiting Replacements, Ltd. as much as he likes sleeping on the couch at home.” Mac turned 13 on October 26th. Happy birthday Mac!
