Featured Pet (and Pet Owner!)
Our featured pet this month is a spunky black-and-tan miniature dachshund named “Trixie Belle.” Trixie belongs to Karen Pirello, manager of Replacements, Ltd.’s process documentation team. Trixie has spent almost every day of her life at Replacements, Ltd. It happens that her parents, Toby Lee and Trudy Mae, belong to our founder and president Bob Page. Born in December 1997, Trixie started coming to work as a newborn. At 8 weeks, Trixie was able to go home at night with Karen, but each day returned to Replacements, which she has done now for over 8 years!
Karen advises that Trixie really looks forward to coming to work, where she spends most days playing with her parents Toby and Trudy as well as her brother Baxter. She announces her arrival when entering the building in the typical dachshund fashion, with multiple barks. She sounds like a big dog until you turn and look, and see that she weighs only 12 pounds! As part of her entry and exit ritual, Trixie makes several stops on the way in and out of work to see special friends and get treats.
Karen recalls when a reporter from a Japanese magazine visited Replacements to write a story about our pet friendly policy. In a translation of the story, she read that the Japanese consider dogs in the workplace to be a great stress reliever. Karen heartily concurs. “I love having my dog close by during the day. I look forward to taking Trixie and her brother outside for breaks. We sometimes make a game of chasing butterflies and grasshoppers.” When Karen’s only daughter left home in 2000 to attend college in Colorado, Trixie helped her to deal with the “empty nest” feelings. Karen muses that Trixie is a loyal and lovable companion both at work and at home.
When asked what is the most fun part of being able to bring her pet to work, Karen replies, “Our pet-friendly policy is only one aspect of Replacements company culture that values diversity and respects individuals. Our corporate values are what keep me coming back day after day, year after year. I am very proud to be employed here. Besides, I love working in a business where customers cry with joy when they find that we have a piece of their grandmother’s china!”
