This month we feature “Buddy,” a feisty Jack Russell Terrier. Buddy belongs to Suzi Stevens, a member of our Curating staff. The story of Buddy’s rescue is an interesting one that is sure to warm your heart.
Suzi always knew that she wanted a Jack Russell or a Jack Russell Terrier mix. One of Suzi’s coworkers at Replacements, Ltd. advised that she knew of a Jack Russell that had been found very close to a local highway. A family rescued the dog, put up flyers, and even took him to the vet to have him scanned for an identification chip. Despite this, the dog’s owner could not be found. Because the family had a small child, they decided that it would be in their best interest to offer the dog up for adoption.
Suzi and her family adopted Buddy on February 6, 2005. Although Jack Russells have a reputation for having boundless energy, Suzi describes Buddy as being very calm and cool. Soon after his adoption, Buddy proved how valuable he really is to Suzi’s family. Suzi’s husband, an insulin-dependent diabetic experienced a diabetes related crisis while at home by himself one morning. Although he was able to call the paramedics, he began slipping in and out of consciousness. Buddy stood over him, licking his ear and barking. When the paramedics arrived, they said that Buddy may have saved Suzi’s husband from slipping into a diabetic coma.
In addition to being a hero, Buddy is brother to “Abbie,” a Chihuahua mix and “Bea” a Terrier mix. Buddy is amiable and very affectionate. Buddy almost always sleeps in Suzi’s daughter’s bed.
When asked what the most fun part of the Replacements, Ltd. pet-friendly policy is, Suzi said, “It’s amazing how much our pets at work mean to us. Every day is made better by their presence. Their personalities and interaction with our staff are a benefit we cannot put a price on. In addition to being a great benefit to Replacements, Ltd. employees, they also bring a smile to the faces of our customers.”
