Featured Pet (and Pet Owner!)
Our Featured Pet is “Alex,” short for “Alexandria,” a 14-month-old female Jack Russell terrier. Alex's proud "Mommy" is Judy Sizemore, who works in the Mail Processing Department at Replacements, Ltd. Judy has been employed with the company for 11 years.
As fate would have it, Alex was born the same day her "Mommy" lost her beloved boxer “Aimee Jo,” who was only four years old when she died suddenly. In spite of her sadness, Judy couldn’t resist when her neighbors invited her over to see their new litter of Jack Russell puppies. Tiny Alex was the runt of the litter, and Judy fell in love with her immediately. Judy brought her home several times to visit before Alex was even weaned. In the little puppy’s presence, Judy began to feel her heart mend from the loss of Aimee Jo.
Alex owes her name to two pitchers on college women’s softball teams. One weekend Judy’s husband was watching a tournament on ESPN. Pitchers on opposing teams were both named Alexandria, and both were nicknamed Alex. When Judy’s husband suggested the name for their new female pup, Judy agreed.
At home Alex loves to play with her “big brother,” “Dawg,” who is a 10-year-old Border collie. But when she comes to work at Replacements, Ltd. with “Mommy,” she plays with her best friend, “Katie,” who is an eight-year-old boxer. (Katie’s owner is Julia Terry, who works in our Miscellaneous Inventory Department.) Although Katie towers over Alex, they have a wonderful time together! Alex also plays with “
Liz,” who is an eight-month-old cairn terrier. (Liz and her owner Sandie Dennis, who works in Mail Processing with Judy, were our Featured Pet and owner in July 2008.)
Some of Alex’s favorite activities are riding in the mail cart while “Mommy” makes deliveries throughout the building, licking toes, playing tug-of-war, and chasing balls. Some employees have given Alex the nickname, "Freckelicious," for her many spots, while other folks call her "Spot," for the big mark on the center of her back.
Judy thinks the Replacements, Ltd. pet-friendly policy is a great benefit to pet owners and to pets. “It allows pets to interact with other animals and with people in a public atmosphere,” Judy says. “Working at Replacements has been an enjoyable experience,” she continues. “I plan to stay here until glorious retirement time comes!” All of us here who are fortunate enough to know Judy and Alex hope that time doesn’t come for a good, long while.
