Featured Pet (and Pet Owner!)
Since she started coming to work at Replacements, Ltd. with Online Content Specialist Ross Howell, English cocker spaniel “Pinot” (like the wine), has become quite the celebrity as a writer. She contributes a quarterly column to the company newsletter, “The Dishrag,” and is a frequent guest author on the internet site, DinnerwareDiary.com, where she is known as “Pinot the Blog Dog.”
“She often complains about computer designers not coming up with a keyboard that individuals who don’t have opposable thumbs can use,” Ross says, “so I have to do her typing for her. She says it would be undignified for her to hunt and peck on the keyboard with her nose. But she’s very disciplined as a writer. She enjoys doing research, and she’s good about meeting deadlines.”
Ross says that a dog he owned previously sold him on the breed. “Before Pinot I had a male English cocker. He went to work with me, went on business trips and attended trade shows with me, went fishing and canoeing with me, and loved riding in the farm truck. When he passed away a few years ago, I knew I wanted another English cocker. They’re compact, robust, and love water. Pinot’s a great example of her breed. Three major words in her vocabulary are her name, then ‘treat,’ then ‘fishing.’”
“She’s been a wonderful companion,” Ross says. “And she looks forward to coming into work every day. She remembers each cubicle and work station where she might be able to beg a treat, so our trips in and out of the building are rarely in a straight line. And of course, she has friends she likes to visit – “Charmin,” “Callie,” “Chyna,” “Polly,” and “Charger” are just a few of her buddies here!”
“The pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Ltd. has been great for me and great for Pinot,” Ross says. “I don’t have to leave her at home alone. And with all the pets, employees, and customers she sees every day, she’s become very social. When she first started coming to work in this huge building, she was a bit tentative and anxious. Now she prances around like a true diva!”
