Replacements, Ltd. Featured Pet (and Pet Owner!)
This month, we feature “Lorna Doone,” a 5 year old Sheltie belonging to Jan Couch, a member of our Silver Inventory staff, and a longtime part of the Replacements, Ltd. team. Lorna Doone became Jan’s “little short bread cookie,” after Jan lost her beloved cat of 17 years. So Lorna traveled from her birth home in Emerald Valley, North Carolina to the small community of Silver Valley, North Carolina.
Lorna is a very smart Sheltie, and has been taught 37 tricks! Her favorite trick is an imitation of Elizabeth Taylor where she sits on Jan’s lap, turns her head to the left, and looks mysteriously into Jan’s eyes. Lorna’s favorite pastimes are doing yard work with Jan, visiting grandma and grandpa (Jan’s parents), playing with her cousins (Banjo and Butterbean who are bull terriers), and riding in Old Blue (a 1979 Ford Truck). Last year Jan and Lorna adopted an orphaned litter of kittens. Now Lorna has 4 little brothers to play with at home, “Medallion,” “Toodles,” “Porcelain,” and “Jack Frost.” Each one of these cats loves their furry-coated Sheltie step-mother. Just like Jan, Lorna loves to accessorize, and they share a necklace and scarf collection when going on outings, they are dazzling together! Shelties are known for a natural herding instinct, so when Lorna’s not busy gathering family, friends, and farm animals into little circles, she twirls in circles. She can twirl as she stands, walks, or runs. Lorna’s greatest attribute is her gentle disposition and kind-hearted manner toward seniors. She has displayed a loving and therapeutic attitude to many seniors during the best of times and in the worst of times.
When asked what she liked most about the Replacements Ltd. pet-friendly policy, Jan had this to say, “Though shy, Lorna thoroughly enjoys her visits to Replacements. I like the flexibility offered by Replacements’ pet-friendly policy. The fact that Lorna can come to work during inclement weather or when things are not favorable to keeping her at home brings me great peace of mind.”
