Early Williams, Supervisor, Order Processing at Replacements, Ltd., and his wife, Pam, decided to look for a large breed dog when they felt their children had grown up enough to be around a big dog. “That’s how we found ‘Grace,’” Early said.
“My wife had been around Doberman pinschers from the time she was a girl,” Early said. “She always admired the noble look of the breed. So we knew that would be the dog for our family.”
Early and Pam looked on the internet for a breeder, and found a reputable one who had a litter of 13 puppies. “When we went to see the pups, we went through quite an interview. It must have lasted 45 minutes. The breeder wanted to make sure the pups would be going to good homes. They were especially concerned that a large dog would have plenty of room to romp and play,” Early said. “Since Pam and I live right in the middle of a farm, we felt we could provide a great home.”
When they met the puppies, they all had very friendly dispositions. “But one stood out,” Early said. “Grace was the first puppy to come over and say hello to us – I guess you could say she picked us!”
Of course, Early and Pam coddled Grace when she was small, so she doesn’t quite understand that she’s no longer puppy-sized. “Grace has to be reminded that not everyone likes to have a 60-pound dog in their lap,” Early said. “She truly thinks she’s still a small dog! Sometimes she’ll jump up in a chair and have it tip over from her weight, but that doesn’t stop her at all!”
After more time has passed, Early and Pam would like to see Grace raise a litter of her own. Grace is a black Doberman, with “blue” traits in her blood lines (Dobermans come in black, red, and fawn colors, as well as blue, a diluted black coloration). “Pam has owned a red Doberman and a black one, but has never had a blue,” Early said. “She’s always wanted one. So we both hope Grace will be a mother one day, when she’s old enough.”
Both Early and Grace enjoy the Replacements, Ltd. pet-friendly policy. Grace loves coming to work,” Early said. “Each morning she picks up her leash and brings it to me to let me know she’s ready to go.”
“We’re so lucky to have a pet-friendly policy at Replacements,” Early said. “When Grace comes into work, she knows exactly who has treats and who has other puppies she can play with. She really lets me know about it if I don’t take her around at least once during the work day to visit all her friends!”
