Replacements, Ltd. inventory specialist Vicki Onus and glazing technician Shelly Mozena have lots of silver and crystal to look after in the course of a day’s work. But when they’re ready for a break, their four-month-old boxer/German shepherd mix, “Bella,” keeps them and everybody in their departments entertained.
Vicki and Shelly adopted Bella when her original owner discovered that she had an allergic reaction to the puppy. They had planned to give Bella to their daughter, Nicole, but when Bella first saw Vicki, “she flew into my arms and wet on us both,” Vicki said. “I knew then I had to keep her, and even now, she doesn’t like being away from me. We just connected.”
Bella joined quite a household of pets – “George,” an American foxhound; “Nugget,” a cat; and “Kakashi,” a leucitic Texas rat snake (Kakashi is white like an albino, but his eyes still have pigment).
Perhaps because of all the competition Bella has for attention at home, she’s quite the comedienne at work. One of Vicki’s coworkers in silver inventory, Brenda Overman (whose dog “
Cody” has been a Featured Pet), said, “Bella loves to wait until Vicki has put down her water and food. Then she’ll tip over both her bowls with her nose so the water and food go flying. She sits back and watches as Vicki scurries around to clean up the mess!”
Over in china restoration, Shelly’s coworker Sara Vestal (whose dear boxer “
Gus,” another Featured Pet, passed away a few months ago), has two young boxers, “Harvey” and “Sabel” – brother and sister. “Bella loves to play with them,” Sara said. “As soon as my dogs turn to leave after they’ve played together, Bella will nip at their hindquarters to get them to turn back. Or when I put their leashes on to lead them away, Bella will grab a leash in her mouth and try to pull them back!”
Shelly commented on the pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Ltd. “It’s wonderful,” she said. “You don’t have the stress of leaving your pet at home, worrying about what they might be getting into while you’re away at work.” Shelly has been employed at Replacements, Ltd. for nine years; Vicki has been employed here one month longer. “Replacements, Ltd. is the best place to work,” Shelly said. “In fact, it’s the only place to work!”
