Jeanine Falcon, Vice President of Human Resources at Replacements, Ltd., and her husband, David, have always known how special the pet policy at Replacements is for its employees. However, the significance of it really hit home personally after losing their Bernese mountain dog
“Bella” to lymphoma three years ago. “When we got the diagnosis for Bella, we knew that our time with her was limited. It was a tremendous comfort to have her here at work, and share her spirit and the sadness of her loss with my work family. The support of fellow employees was tremendous.” Not long after losing Bella, Jeanine received a call that Bella’s litter sister had puppies. Not sure if they were ready for another dog, Jeanine and her husband decided to “just visit” the puppies. It only took a moment for them to meet and pick out “Zola,” a tricolored fur ball with a Harry Potter lightning bolt on her forehead. They were smitten, and made arrangements to pick up Zola three weeks later.
Today, Zola is quite a sight, weighing in at 130 pounds. She is full of personality, which is a nice way of saying that she is a spoiled-rotten diva who loves attention! Zola would come to work every day if she could, and does her best to make a beeline out of the house and into the car each morning. She has also become something of a media darling – just this past year she was featured in “USA Today”… twice!
Jeanine and her husband David love animals, and have rescued seven of their nine pets over the last 15 years. Today they have three other dogs besides Zola (“Bear,” a Border collie mix, “Juneau,” an Australian shepherd, and “Dingo,” an Australian cattle dog), and one cat, “Bubble.”
When asked about Replacements and its pet friendly policy, Jeanine says, “I take great pride in being able to tell the story of not only our pet-friendly policies, but also the story of Replacements and our employees. We have a special workplace here, and special history that all started with Bob Page’s vision – a vision that included a fair, open, and honest workplace, and a commitment to excellence in customer service while creating a great place to work. Many companies and CEOs talk about that type of commitment and vision, but here at Replacements we try to live it every day, and I feel lucky to be a part of it.”
