“Muffin” is a very special twelve-year-old white poodle who belongs to Nelson Poindexter, a member of the Replacements, Ltd. curating department. “Muffin first joined our family when ‘Kitty,’ my partner’s first poodle, passed away,” Nelson said. “From the beginning, we could tell Muffin was not your usual poodle. Instead of being very energetic or yappy, she was quiet and reserved. She wanted attention, but wanted you to work for it. Either you had to come to her and carry her around, or she would jump in your lap when you sat down – she is a true lap dog!”
Muffin immediately bonded with Nelson and his partner’s other poodle, “Mady,” and was very content until they adopted “CoCo.” According to Nelson, Muffin expressed her unhappiness with CoCo’s intrusion by retreating to the living room couch, looking out the window, and secretly wishing CoCo would go away. “It wasn’t until after Mady passed away that Muffin began to realize that CoCo was there to stay, and that the best way to get more attention was to become the center of attention,” Nelson said. Although Muffin would still bump CoCo out of the way if you tried to give CoCo attention, she also started playing more with CoCo, and even took to cuddling up with her on the floor or bed.
Although Muffin has dealt with a recent health scare, she now seems to be on the road to recovery. “She still is not out of danger yet,” Nelson said, “but we are cherishing everyday with our little pumpkin, and hoping and praying she will continue to get better.”
Asked about the pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Nelson said, “What I like most about Replacements pet friendly policy is that even though I don’t bring my two girls in — I would have to bring both, because I don’t like to leave one home without the other – I can take the time to visit and play with all of my other four-legged friends throughout the building. What a great way to relieve stress!” When asked about working at Replacements in general, Nelson said, “I have been here for twenty-six years, and there is no greater company to work for. This place is home instead of a work place. We are all family.”
