“Spike,” an eight-month-old chihuahua terrier mix, belongs to Julia Terry, a miscellaneous inventory purchasing specialist in the Replacements, Ltd. inventory department. Julia found Spike after responding to an online posting in March of this year. When he first came home to Julia’s family, he only weighed just over one pound, and resembled a little black hamster! Julia’s 8-year-old daughter christened this tiny puppy “Spike.”
Julia started bringing Spike to work when he was just a puppy, where he immediately started receiving attention from coworkers and passers-by. “People would constantly ask me what kind of dog he was,” Julia said. “They would laugh at how small he was, but mostly they would want to pick him up and give him some puppy lovin’!” Julia continued, “We all often wondered what Spike would grow up to be – a dog, a cat, a cat-dog? It turns out he is a chihuahua terrier mix.” As Spike grew, his coat began to look more like a terrier’s, with wiry hair sticking out here and there – he even developed whiskers around his face. “He is quite funny looking, actually, and that’s what most people like about him,” Julia said.
According to Julia, Spike likes to hide under blankets to stay warm (the more the better), and loves his stuffed animals – he has even “adopted” a few from Julia’s daughters. Spike also sometimes whines in such a way that he sounds like he is singing! “Spike comes to work when he feels like it, and sleeps in a cat cube on my desk,” Julia said. “Most of the time, though, he likes to stay at home, sitting in our front bay window and watching the world go by.”
Asked about the pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Julia said, “I think the pet policy here at Replacements provides a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your pets. They offer unconditional love throughout the day, whether good or bad.” When asked about working at Replacements in general, Julia said, “Replacements is a wonderful place to work, with a diverse culture that welcomes all sorts of people – and their pets, too!”
