Royal Worcester was conceived in 1751 when Dr. John Wall, a gifted surgeon and local pharmacist, developed a "soft paste" porcelain that would not crack or shatter in boiling water. Nearly a century later, the company was on the forefront of another development: "Parian," the name given to a white "biscuit" porcelain, developed in both France and England in the mid-19th century. In this process Royal Worcester was a leader, and Parian busts, figurines, vases, boxes, and pitchers adorned nearly every Victorian household. Today, with patterns like Evesham Gold, Worcester Herbs, Holly Ribbons, and more, Royal Worcester continues to be a tableware legend.
