10KY Gold Plated Victorian William Essex Enamel Westie Dog Stick Pin

$1,099.00

An exceptional 10-karat yellow gold stick pin featuring a hand-painted porcelain enamel by renowned English artist William Essex, signed and dated 1863. The portrait depicts "Scratch," the white West Highland Terrier inspired by Impudence from Sir Edwin Landseer's celebrated 1839 painting Dignity & Impudence, commissioned by Jacob Bell, the dogs' owner and Landseer's close friend. Essex's acclaimed enamels are represented in the Royal Collection and the Victoria & Albert Museum. The pin retains a later gold-plated stopper.
