Replacements, Ltd. Recognized as Leader in Workplace Equality for Tenth Consecutive Year
Recognition comes during threatening time for families in North Carolina
GREENSBORO, N.C., December 8, 2011 – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, awarded Replacements, Ltd. a perfect score on the organization's Corporate Equality Index (CEI) released earlier today. 190 other employers also achieved a 100 percent rating. The Greensboro retailer—one of only nine companies in the nation to achieve a 100 percent rating every year since the index began in 2002, and the only North Carolina-based company to receive a perfect score all ten years—applauds each business earning a perfect score.
The annual report rates how major American companies treat LGBT employees, consumers and investors. The CEI 2012 evaluates businesses on factors such as non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees. The CEI 2012, which demonstrates that much of corporate America has embraced LGBT-inclusive workplace policies and practices, coincides with a crucial battle in North Carolina: a May 2012 referendum to amend North Carolina's constitution. If approved by voters, recognition of civil unions and domestic partnerships for unmarried same-sex and opposite-sex couples living and working in the state would be prohibited. As a consequence, families and children will be negatively impacted as access to benefits, domestic violence protections, child custody and visitation rights, and end-of-life decision-making are threatened.
"That so many of our nation's leading businesses champion equal treatment of LGBT people and their families tells the story," says Replacements' Chairman and CEO Bob Page. "As a country, we are moving towards more and more inclusion. Businesses get that, and employers like Replacements are proud to speak out for policies in the best interests of all our people. Efforts like the anti-gay, anti-family amendment here in North Carolina go against everything that is happening in workplaces and communities in North Carolina and across the country. Our CEI score reflects our deep commitment to equality. Replacements strongly opposes all forms of discrimination, and we hope that all North Carolinians will join us in working to secure the rights of our fellow citizens."
As a top-rated business, Replacements, Ltd. will also be included on the HRC's "Best Places to Work" list. The Corporate Equality Index 2012 report is available at www.hrc.org/cei.
