GREENSBORO, N.C., November 18, 2015 – This morning the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is recognizing Replacements, Ltd. for leading the country in the fight for workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans. Replacements is the only North Carolina-based company to achieve a perfect score on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) all 14 years the civil rights organization has monitored American businesses.
The 2016 report rates on a scale from zero to 100 percent how major American companies treat LGBT employees, consumers and investors on factors such as workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBT community. Replacements is one of only nine companies in the nation to achieve a 100 percent rating since the index began in 2002; others on this short list include Apple, Nike, American Airlines and Xerox.
The honor is especially meaningful for Replacements’ Founder and CEO Bob Page, who married his long-time partner Dale Frederiksen on the couple's 26th anniversary last March.
"I never thought in a million years I’d be able to marry Dale and, with our 16-year old twin sons, be recognized as a legal family," Page says. "As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision in June, now all employees with same-sex spouses and their families have access to workplace benefits that we established years ago here at Replacements," according to Page. "Unfortunately, we’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us; the recent rejection of an LGBT equality measure in Houston means we’ve got to continue showing that hard-working LGBT Americans make major contributions to workplaces and our economy. I’m lucky to live in a city like Greensboro, North Carolina; earlier this year, it passed fair housing laws protecting the LGBT community, along with protections in city employment and services. But far too many counties, towns, cities and states lag behind major American employers in protecting LGBT people and their families. People should be treated fairly, no matter where they work and live," Page concluded.
Out of 1,024 businesses rated by the CEI, Replacements is among 391 major U.S. businesses to earn top marks. For more information on the 2016 Corporate Equality Index, or to download a free copy of the report, visit www.hrc.org/cei.
