Featured Pattern - July 2003
Lancaster by Adams China Co.
This month’s featured china pattern is one of our most popular, the beautiful “Lancaster” by Adams China. “Lancaster” was first produced by Adams China in 1969, and was to be its last hand-painted porcelain design. The artists of the Adams factory got the design idea from a pattern that the company produced between 1829 and 1861 called “Adams Rose.” “Adams Rose” featured whimsical hand-painted red flowers and green leaves on durable ironstone shapes. The design reflected the Arts and Crafts Movement, popular in England at the time, in which artists worked to mass-produce items while allowing them to retain a handmade quality. Many pottery designs from the arts and crafts movement resemble abstract stenciled shapes. The “Lancaster” pattern uses the same red and green design that was used on “Adams Rose.” Each piece of the “Lancaster” pattern is made of exceptionally durable white Ironstone. While Adams discontinued the pattern in 1998, Replacements, Ltd. carries a very large selection of pieces. Be sure to peruse our extensive inventory of pieces available in this delightful summertime pattern.
