The alluring Splendid Platinum pattern by Oneida is rimmed, round white china adorned with delicate, thin bands of platinum trim. The understated and serene design of Splendid Platinum is elegant enough for service at formal dinners, and like the Chambour-Silver and Crown Platinum sets above, this pattern also makes a fantastic wedding present. Our special 45-piece set includes 8 cups and 8 saucers, 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, and 8 rimmed soup bowls, along with 1 creamer, 1 sugar bowl with lid, 1 oval serving platter (14 1/8 inches), and 1 round vegetable bowl (9 inches).
The Oneida company grew out of the original Oneida Community founded in upstate New York by John Humphrey Noyes more than 150 years ago. This Christian communal society was based upon the principles of individual self-perfection and shared property. Women bore the same duties as men, and individual responsibilities varied from day to day. This constant rotation of roles required creativity from the members of the community, and many inventions were developed at Oneida. For more than 30 years the "community" received recognition – and profit – for areas of endeavor as diverse as silk weaving, chain making, and, eventually, some of the world's most recognizable, high-quality, and impeccably designed tableware products.
