First produced in 1950, Currier & Ives-Blue by the Royal China Company is a charming multi-motif pattern decorated with various blue & white scenes inspired by Currier & Ives prints. The scrolled border was designed by Gordon Parker, who was the company’s art director at the time Currier & Ives was introduced. This month, we’re offering an enormous variety of pieces in Currier & Ives-Blue including dessert/pie plates, cake plates, loaf pans, and more.
The Royal China Company got its start in 1934, when three investors founded a new china company in an abandoned factory that once housed the Oliver China Company and the E. H. Sebring Company in Sebring, Ohio. In 1964, the company expanded by purchasing the French-Saxon China Company. Royal China was bought by the Jeanette Glass Company in 1969, and Currier & Ives was discontinued shortly thereafter (it was later re-introduced in the mid-1970s). The Coca-Cola Bottling Company bought Royal China in 1976, and the company was sold several more times throughout the following decade. The company eventually faced insurmountable financial difficulties in 1986, and ceased all operations.
