Next up, we’re offering a gorgeous 118-piece Francis I enameled flatware set. Introduced by Reed & Barton in 1907, Francis I quickly became a favorite of nobility and presidents. This Renaissance-inspired pattern has an ornate handle that is decorated with voluminous scrollwork, leaves, blossoms, and fruit. The pattern can be described as fifteen designs in one, due to the assortment of flower and fruit arrangements decorating the different piece types within the pattern. For example, the dinner knives and forks have an intricate blackberry, plum, lemon, and apple design, while the butter spreader and fish knives feature apples, peaches, and oranges. Similar variations are done across other pieces types. “Francis I” is an exquisite example of silver artisanship, and we’re excited to offer this 118-piece enameled set for those who want a sterling silver set that is unique, eye-catching, and extraordinary.
This set includes eight of the fifteen different fruit motifs available in the Francis I pattern, rendered in original hand-painted enameling on the handles. This rare enameled set was specially produced by Reed & Barton for luxury and home goods retailer Fortunoff, and is the only known set of its kind in circulation. The set includes 12 dinner knives, 12 steak knives, 12 dinner forks (7 3/4 inches), 12 dinner forks (7 1/4 inches), 12 fish forks, 12 teaspoons, 12 round soup spoons, 12 dessert spoons, 12 demitasse spoons, 2 table (serving) spoons, 2 cold meat serving forks, 1 master butter knife, 1 sugar spoon, 1 soup ladle, 1 pie/cake server, 1 pickle fork, and 1 lemon fork. (All pieces have the Reed & Barton backstamp except for the table (serving) spoons, which are stamped with the Eagle/R/Lion trademark.)
