Next up, we’re offering a sparkling “Lovebirds” figurine by Swarovski. This resplendent Swarovski crystal figurine comes from the Swarovski Collectors Society line, which includes some of the most sought-after pieces by discerning collectors of crystal. While the history of Swarovski reaches back more than 100 years, the Swarovski Collectors Society was formed in 1987, under a plan whereby Collectors Society pieces would be sold only through certified retailers to society members. Because of this, an active secondary market has been created for Collectors Society pieces. Each year, a new piece is introduced and is produced for exactly one year. Every three years, a new theme is introduced. Replacements, Ltd. carries a great selection of Swarovski pieces in addition to the first edition 1987 “Love Birds” Collectors Society piece offered here – be sure to have a look at our entire selection.
Part of the great appeal of Swarovski crystal is in its history. Founder Daniel Swarovski I was born in 1862 in Georgenthal, Czechoslovakia, into a family that dealt in precious stones, gems, and glass. His Austro-Hungarian village was far removed from the modern advances in technology that were sweeping Europe and the U.S. at the time. In 1883, Swarovski visited the Electricity Exposition in Vienna, Austria. There he became determined to find a way to use the new technology of electricity in the production of fine glassware. He applied for a patent for an electric polishing machine for crystal and precious stones, then looked for a location near a river or stream that was suitable for generating electricity. He found an ideal location in the Tyrolean Alps near Innsbruck, and in 1895, Swarovski opened what would become a thriving family business.
