This month, we feature “Rufus” a fun and outgoing lab mix. Rufus belongs to Brenda Kormanec, a member of our purchasing staff. Brenda first met Rufus when she and her daughter visited the Guilford County Animal Shelter in 1998. They were looking to get a new pet after they had lost “Gypsy.” Gypsy was a Border-Collie mix that had grown very attached to Kormanec’s family. She passed away in 1997 of cancer. The volunteers at the animal shelter said that Rufus was very mild mannered and they could not believe that she had not been claimed after having been there a month. Brenda immediately fell in love with Rufus and brought him home.
Rufus loves playing in the yard, chasing squirrels, and taking car rides. He is extremely gentle and often joins the family on vacations and road trips. Rufus really likes to eat. The veterinarian recently placed him on a strict diet and Rufus is none too happy about it. In the past year, Brenda and her family decided that they wanted another pet. Jayda, a pit bull, is full of energy and Rufus took his time getting to know the new puppy. They have since grown accustomed to each other and Brenda reports that they will sometimes sleep together on the same bed.
Occasionally, Rufus needs a break from Jayda and that is when he hops in the car with Brenda for a day of work at Replacements, Ltd. Brenda said that having Rufus at work with her makes the work day seem so much more enjoyable. Brenda also said that she is very grateful to our Founder and CEO, Bob Page, for allowing his staff to bring their pets to work. For Brenda, it is a sign that the company really cares about the well being of its employees.
