"Maya" and "Boss" are the beloved pets of Tammy Flinchum, Administrative Coordinator in the Human Resources department at Replacements Ltd. Maya came into Tammy"s life a week before Christmas several years ago. "My mother-in-law had asked us to take our niece to pick out her Christmas present - a Feist puppy. I told my husband and son before we left the house that we were not, under any circumstances, coming home with a dog for our family as well," Tammy said.
"When we pulled up to the house where the puppy was, we noticed there were puppies everywhere. My son picked up a tan Feist and handed it to his cousin, and she fell in love with the puppy immediately. As we were getting ready to leave, a tiny black, white, and brown puppy next to my son put her paw on the back of his shoe. It was like she picked him out to take her to her forever home! I looked at my husband and he laughed, shook his head, and proceeded to pay for our little Maya," Tammy said. Maya has since been a wonderful addition to Tammy's family. "She likes to run and play catch, and she has to be the center of attention all the time. I have brought Maya to work a few times to visit, and she loves all the attention she gets because she knows she is a princess! Maya has been a blessing to our family and we love her so very much," Tammy said.
Boss entered the picture later on, when Tammy's son asked if they could rescue a friend's dog who was otherwise going to the pound. "I asked my son how big his friend's dog was, and he told me the dog was about the same size as Maya. I told him to call his dad, and of course his dad said, "No, we don't need another dog. 'Well, of course my son ended up bringing Boss home anyway," Tammy said. Although Tammy's son was right - Boss was about the size of Maya - he didn't mention that Boss was a growing Pitbull/Boxer puppy. Needless to say, he has since grown to be a lot bigger than Maya. "My family and I fell in love with Boss, and could not believe someone wanted to take such a beautiful, loving baby to the pound. Boss is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever had. He loves to snuggle, and he literally thinks he is a toy poodle. He weighs in at least 80 pounds, which probably makes him the world's largest lap dog!" Tammy said. Boss has not visited Replacements yet, but he will be making an appearance soon. "I just wonder, will he bring a new meaning to the phrase 'like a bull in a china shop' when he visits?" Tammy laughs. "I'm just kidding - he truly is a gentle, loving soul."
When asked about the pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Tammy said, "I am so thankful to know that we have a pet-friendly policy that allows me to bring my pets to work. I love to see the reactions of the customers when they see the dogs in the warehouse and in the retail store. There is nothing like being able to visit a coworker and their pet to add a little extra sunshine to your day."Return to Featured Pets Archive
