Replacements, Ltd.
Glass Seminar

Duncan Swan This month, we are very excited to announce an upcoming one-day seminar, "An Introduction to Glass Collecting." This seminar will be a unique “hands-on” opportunity for you to learn about the chemistry, history, origins, and development of glass and the glassware industry. This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th, 2004. Registration begins at 9:00 AM, with the seminar beginning at 9:30 AM. The seminar will conclude approximately at 3:30 PM. There is a $20 registration fee for this event. The registration cost includes a resource literature packet, a workbook, and light refreshments that will be served throughout the day.

Our primary speaker at this event will be Dean Six. Dean has been a member of the Replacements, Ltd. family for several years and has coauthored a number of Replacements, Ltd’s books, including Homer Laughlin: Decades of Dinnerware and Noritake: Jewel of the Orient . Dean has also authored several books on glass, lectured widely across the U.S. on glass, and is closely allied with the West Virginia Museum of American Glass; an institution which he co-founded. Over the years, he has become our company’s personal “glass guru.” This glass seminar promises to be a romp across glass history that will touch on many topics, spanning from ancient forms of glass production to 20th Century American glass and art. This unique hands-on opportunity will address topics such as historical flasks, pressed glass, art glass, Depression glass, carnival glass, cut glass, and much more. From soda bottles and telephone insulators to elegantly etched tableware, this introductory course will help you to learn the language, resources, and beginning elements for glass collectors, dealers, and the “glass-curious.” Physical examples of dozens of types of glass will be available for examination and hands-on learning. This event promises to be interactive and fun-filled.

Heisey's Tropical Fish While you are here, be sure to browse through our beautiful showroom, take the Replacements, Ltd. facilities tour (our tour is offered through the showroom every hour from 10:00 AM-7:00 PM), and view the rare objects contained in our showroom museum.
